While Covid-19 restrictions have largely been lifted in England, the Committee met last month to consider how we as a club should respond. As our Members will be aware, our conclusion was that with once more increasing numbers of positive tests and infections being recorded, we would move slowly in removing the safety measures that had been put in place. We have therefore, for example retained lane booking and lane separation.
2021 Klondike Longbow – CANCELLED.
With this in mind we felt that we could not stage the Klondike Longbow tournament and safely welcome the number of Archers that would want to participate and which are essential to retain the events friendly and informal nature.
The Klondike has therefore unfortunately also been cancelled for 2021. My apologies for the delay in updating the website.
Let’s hope we will be able to confidently get back to normal for next year.
2021 Open Nationals – REGRETFULLY CANCELLED.
This is normally held in July so we had little time to organise the event and to assess the situation of the rule changes as we came out of lockdown. With the additional implications of this tournament normally being National record status and the larger number of Archers we would expect to welcome to the club, based upon 2019’s near maximum capacity across both morning and afternoon sessions, the decision was taken to cancelled the event.
On behalf of Malvern Archers.
Each year , Pre Covid-19, we run two open tournament. Our Open Nationals has run for 14 years and incorporates the County of Worcestershire Novice championship and is National record status. For the last 4 years we have also run the Klondike Longbow tournament which we host at Manor Park.
While attracting many of the top local Archers and providing some good competition for the overall prizes the National family of rounds make it an ideal place for people new to the sport seeking to take their first step into competitions. We are delighted that this event incorporates the County of Worcestershire Novices championship and it’s nice to see previous entrants progress their Archery careers with many now shooting at County level.
The tournament has over recent years attracted up to 95 competitors. For 2017 and 2018 this was held at RGS The Grange just outside of Worcester, but for 2019 we hosted the tournament at Manor Park with Long National round being shot in the morning and the National and Junior rounds were shot in the afternoon.
As we have a number of members who enjoy traditional archery, in early 2016 we decided to add our own Open longbow tournament to the calendar. This event has proved very popular with local clubs and we have been joined by most of the best Longbow Archers in the area. The emphasis is very much on fun and we fire up the BBQ!
