Our Tournaments

 COVID-19 Update

The Committee met last month to review the impact of the improving situation and relaxation of the Covid-19 lockdown rules on our two Open Tournaments. Overall we felt that we wanted to stay on the safer side of these changes to ensure we could plan the events and welcome competitors with confidence.  We therefore concluded the following –

2021 Open Nationals – REGRETFULLY CANCELLED.

This is normally held in July so we have less time to organise the event and to assess the situation of the rule changes. With the additional implications of this tournament normally being National record status and the larger number of Archers we would expect to welcome to the club, based upon 2019’s near maximum capacity across both morning and afternoon sessions.

As this event normally incorporates the Worcestershire County Novice Championships we will review options with County, it may be possible for us to schedule a Novice only event later in the year, which may make sense given the number of Beginners courses lost to the pandemic over 2020 and early 2021.

2021 Klondike Longbow – LIKELY TO PROCEED.

As this tournament is normally scheduled in August and attracts a smaller number of Archers, we are hopefully that we can host this, possibly with a slightly restricted capacity so please watch this space and keep Saturday August 21st free.

I will email those who entered in 2018 and 2019 once we have confirmed we are proceeding and have agreed the format.

Please watch this page for updates.  Stay safe and stay healthy.

On behalf of Malvern Archers.

Each year we run two open tournament.  Our Open Nationals has run for 14 years and incorporates the County of Worcestershire Novice championship and is National record status. For the last 4 years we have also run the Klondike Longbow tournament which we host at Manor Park.

Malvern Open Nationals & CWAA Novices Tournament

While attracting many of the top local Archers and providing some good competition for the overall prizes the National family of rounds make it an ideal place for people new to the sport seeking to take their first step into competitions. We are delighted that this event incorporates the County of Worcestershire Novices championship and it’s nice to see previous entrants progress their Archery careers with many now shooting at County level.

The tournament has over recent years attracted up to 95 competitors. For 2017 and 2018 this was held at  RGS The Grange just outside of Worcester, but for 2019 we hosted the tournament at Manor Park with Long National round being shot in the morning and the National and Junior rounds were shot in the afternoon.

Klondike Longbow Tournament

As we have a number of members who enjoy traditional archery, in early 2016 we decided to add our own Open longbow tournament to the calendar.  This event has proved very popular with local clubs and we have been joined by most of the best Longbow Archers in the area.  The emphasis is very much on fun and we fire up the BBQ!
